How Will My Memory Mattress Be Delivered?

Our memory mattresses are delivered rolled up and vacuum packed with protective plastic sheeting. Vacuum packed means that all of the air within the large plastic bag has been sucked out around the mattress and from the millions of tiny holes that populate the memory foam, making it compressed and as small as possible. Essentially this serves two beneficial purposes:

  • To reduce the area taken up by the mattress whilst in storage
  • To protect the mattress during transit.

This means that when your memory mattress is delivered, you will need to find a large flat, open area to unpack it. Once you have removed the outer plastic packaging, your memory foam mattress will slowly but surely unfurl into a flat shape. It’s worth noting that it may take a few hours – sometimes a couple of days - for the memory foam to ‘inflate’ to its full size. The memory foam is constructed from visco-elastic foam that is full of millions upon millions of tiny air pockets. When heat and pressure are applied to the mattress, air escapes from these air pockets, allowing the mattress to sculpt around your body. Once the pressure is removed, the air pockets are refilled with air and thus the memory mattress regains its original form.

You may also find that there is a substantial chemical smell when the memory foam mattress is unpacked after delivery – this is merely a side effect from the manufacturing process and is nothing to worry about. The mattress just needs some ‘airing’ for a minimum of 24 hours in a well-ventilated area.
